Nineteen Former Spokane Indians Players Open Season on MLB Rosters

Spokane, Wash. - The 2023 MLB season kicks off today with a total of 19 former Spokane Indians players opening the year on big league rosters. The Colorado Rockies lead the way with a total of three Indians alums on their roster, while the New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays,

Spokane, Wash. - The 2023 MLB season kicks off today with a total of 19 former Spokane Indians players opening the year on big league rosters. The Colorado Rockies lead the way with a total of three Indians alums on their roster, while the New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays, and Texas Rangers each have a pair of former Spokane players. Royals right-hander Zack Greinke ('02), who gets the Opening Day start for Kansas City, is the longest-tenured player with Inland Northwest roots - having pitched for the Indians over two decades ago. On the other end of the spectrum, NL Rookie of the Year contender Ezequiel Tovar ('21) is the most recent to have spent time in Spokane, appearing in 32 games with the Indians just two years ago.

Toronto Blue Jays: Erik Swanson

Washington Nationals: Carl Edwards Jr.

In addition to the players listed above, a pair of MLB teams will have an Indians alum at the helm as manager: Bud Black (Rockies) and Bruce Bochy (Rangers).

The Spokane Indians are the High-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies located in Spokane, Washington, and were named 2021 MiLB Organization of the Year.
