Mets tie season high with 16 hits, wallop Tortugas 12-5

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (August 25, 2026) – The St. Lucie Mets offense came alive in a resounding 12-5 win in the series opener against the Daytona Tortugas on Tuesday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
Mets catcher Yovanny Rodriguez put together his best game with St. Lucie at the plate, going 3 for 5 with two home runs and three RBI. His leadoff home run in the third inning came immediately after the Tortugas scored five runs in the bottom of the second to tie the game 5-5. The Rodriguez homer put the Mets up for good.
Rodriguez also led off the seventh inning with a homer for the final run of the game.
Aiden Robbins hit a three-run homer in the second inning to put the Mets up 5-0. Robbins finished 2 for 5 with the homer, a single, walk, three RBI and two runs.
The Mets tied their season high with 16 hits, a feat they also accomplished on July 22nd vs. Fort Myers. Seven players recorded multi-hit games. Jake Ogden went 3 for 4 from the No. 9 spot with two RBI and two runs.
Boston Baro went 2 for 5 with a key two-out, two-run double in the third inning that increased the Mets lead to 8-5.
Ogden hit a two-out, two-run single with the bases loaded in the sixth inning to push the Mets lead to 11-5.
Ryan Lambert started the game for St. Lucie on a MiLB rehab assignment. He pitched a scoreless first inning with one strikeout.
Cesar Rivera made his team debut in the second inning and appeared in his first MiLB game since 2023 in the Dominican Summer League. Rivera walked all five batters he faced before being lifted for Christian Rodriguez. The Tortugas drew back-to-back bases loaded walks vs. Rodriguez to make it 5-4. However, Rodriguez stopped the bleeding by allowing just one more run on a ground out that tied the game.
Rodriguez ended up pitching 3.2 innings without allowing a run of his own. Brett Banks followed Rodriguez and retired all four batters he faced, including three on strikeouts, to get credit for the win.
Ernesto Mercedes pitched 2.0 scoreless innings. Zack Mack pitched a scoreless ninth.
Wyatt Vincent registered two hits for the second straight game. Reed Stallman went 2 for 4 and Kuhio Aloy was 2 for 6 with a double.
The Mets (19-35, 52-68) and Tortugas (33-21, 54-66) play the second game of their series at Jackie Robinson Ballpark on Wednesday. First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
