Omaha starting pitcher Andres Machado fired six solid frames and held Iowa to just four hits, while first baseman Frank Schwindel's bases-clearing double and shortstop Raul Mondesi's two-run homer was all the Storm Chasers needed in a 5-2 victory over the Cubs in front of 8,739 fans on Saturday evening

Omaha starting pitcher Andres Machado fired six solid frames and held Iowa to just four hits, while first baseman Frank Schwindel's bases-clearing double and shortstop Raul Mondesi's two-run homer was all the Storm Chasers needed in a 5-2 victory over the Cubs in front of 8,739 fans on Saturday evening at Werner Park.

Machado (6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 K) earned his first Triple-A victory with a quality outing, at one point retiring 13 of 14 batters faced from the second inning until the sixth. Relievers Pedro Fernandez (2.0 IP, H, R, ER, K) and Kevin Lenik (1.0 IP, K) yielded just one hit over the final three frames, with Lenik notching his first Triple-A save. Iowa starter Williams Perez (4.0 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 5 K) suffered the defeat to fall to 5-8.
Omaha scored first for the eighth consecutive contest via a trio of tallies in the opening frame when Schwindel smashed a three-run double to left. After the Cubs answered with a single score in the top of the second, the Storm Chasers countered with two more runs in the last of the frame courtesy of Mondesi's two-run opposite field blast. Iowa plated their second and final tally in the seventh.
Schwindel (2-4, 2B, 3 RBI) continued his excellent hot stretch at the plate, extending his hit streak to eight while recording a knock in 27 of his last 28 matchups. Torres (2-3, 2 R, 2B, BB) was the only other batter to record a multi-hit effort for the Storm Chasers, while no Iowa hitters collected more than one base hit.
The two teams are set to square off again in a Sunday matinee at Werner Park, with first pitch scheduled for 2:05 p.m. CT. LHP Brian Flynn (4-3, 6.08) is anticipated to get the nod for Omaha, with the Cubs expected to counter with LHP Rob Zastryzny (1-1, 6.75).
