Comeback City; Tourists Stun Legends

ASHEVILLE-- Tuesday night at McCormick Field showcased the largest come-from-behind win of the season for the Asheville Tourists. Trailing 7-1, the Tourists scored eight unanswered runs to beat the Lexington Legends 9-7.
Previously, Asheville's biggest comeback win of the season came on May 8 at Kannapolis. The Tourists trailed 5-0 before overcoming that deficit to win. Tonight, the Tourists faced a six-run deficit after Lexington used a big fourth inning to break the game open; or so they thought.

Max George scored the game's initial run in the bottom of the first inning. George came in from third on Tyler Nevin's RBI groundout. Lexington responded in the second with a Joe Dudek two-run Home Run. The Legends then plated five more in the fourth to take a 7-1 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, Vince Fernandez and Joel Diaz each plated runs with RBI groundouts. With the score 7-3, the Tourists had the bases empty and two outs in the fifth. The rally was just beginning. Asheville worked back-to-back walks. The next two batters, Nevin and Bobby Wernes, delivered RBI singles to make it 7-5. Fernandez then hit a three-run Homer to give the Tourists an 8-7 lead.
Manny Melendez added a seventh inning solo Home Run to give the home team some extra cushion. Asheville's bullpen came in to begin the fifth inning and did not surrender a run. Kenny Oakly, Juan Pena, Julian Fernández, and Reid Humphreys combined to toss the final five innings. Oakley picked up the win and Humphreys the save.
Asheville now has an opportunity to sweep Lexington with the series finale scheduled for Wednesday night at 7:05pm.
