ASHEVILLE- Garrett Schilling gave the Asheville Tourists exactly what they needed on Friday night; a strong starting pitching performance. The right-hander did not allow a hit through the first four innings and picked up a win in his first start of the season.

Lucas Gilbreath relived Schilling in the middle of the sixth inning and tossed 3.1 shutout frames en route to his second save of the season. The Tourists limited the Fireflies to six total hits, all singles.

Asheville took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. After Casey Golden doubled, Bret Boswell reached on a fielding error that allowed Golden to score. Chad Spanberger made it 3-0 with a two-run Home Run in the fourth. The Tourists tacked on another unearned run later in the inning when Matt McLaughlin laced a two-out RBI single into left.

Columbia's only offense came in the form of a two-out RBI single by Jeremy Vasquez in the sixth. That hit chased Schilling from the game but Gilbreath induced a flyout to end the threat. Schilling finished with 75 pitches and became the first Tourists starting pitcher to earn a win this year.

Boswell continued the offensive attack for Asheville in the bottom of the sixth. The Tourists second-baseman launched a two-out solo Home Run over the left field wall; his second opposite field Home Run this season.

With the win Asheville evened up the current series at one game apiece. Game three is set for a 6:05pm first pitch on Saturday night.
