Suns Outshine Tourists in 10-5 Defeat

September 4, 2016

ASHEVILLE, NC-- The Asheville Tourists dropped their final night game of the 2016 season 10-5 to the Hagerstown Suns. Asheville fell behind big early but rallied back to make it close. The Suns broke through again late to claim the win.

Each team scored once in the third inning. The Suns plated their run on a two-out RBI single by Blake Perkins. Asheville answered on a Chris Keck sacrifice fly. In the fourth, Hagerstown exploded for five runs on six hits against Tourists starting pitcher Javier Palacios.

The Tourists methodically cut into the deficit. Asheville plated one in the fourth and two more in the fifth. With the score 6-4, the Suns used a four-run eighth inning to cushion their lead. Ian Sagdal and Grant DeBruin each recorded four hits for the visitors.

Logan Sawyer, Cristian Quintin, and Hayden Jones all pitched effectively out of Asheville's bullpen. Offensively, the Tourists managed only six hits. Two came from Max George and two came from Eric Toole.

A post-game ceremony honored first-baseman Brian Mundell and his Minor League doubles record. Mundell was given a standing ovation from 4,270 fans and presented a trophy for his iconic achievement.

The Tourists final game of the 2016 season is scheduled for Monday afternoon with the first pitch slated for 2:05pm.
