Sweep of State College Completed in 2-1 Tri-City Win

The Tri-City ValleyCats completed their three-game sweep of the State College Spikes on Monday with a 2-1 win at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. 

The Tri-City ValleyCats completed their three-game sweep of the State College Spikes on Monday with a 2-1 win at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. 

Throughout the series, the ValleyCats outscored the Spikes 15-2 behind another dominant pitching performance in the series finale.
Carlos Hiraldo started the game for Tri-City, going four innings and giving up the 'Cats' only run.
He was replaced by Nivaldo Rodriguez, who earned his first win of the season in four scoreless innings.
Tim Hardy closed out the game with a hitless ninth inning to earn his team-leading third save of the season.
Brady Whalen doubled in the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning for State College, pinning the ValleyCats in an early hole.
Tri-City then tied the game in the fifth when Carlos Machado brought home Ramiro Rodriguez with a sacrifice fly. 
Michael Wielansky scored the ValleyCats' go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning, when Oscar Campos brought him home with a single.
Now a season-high six games above .500 at 18-12 on the season, the Tri-City ValleyCats stand 2.5 games ahead of Lowell and Vermont for first place in the New York-Penn League's Stedler Division.
The 'Cats will return home on Tuesday night, when they begin a three-game series with the New York Mets-affiliated Brooklyn Cyclones at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. It's Irish Night at "The Joe" presented by TD Bank, with a 2018 team poster giveaway and pregame concert by Hair of the Dog. Gates open at 5:00 p.m., game time is 7:00 p.m.
