Alomar impresses at Honda Super Camp

Parents just as excited as children on day one of Honda Super Camp
June 28, 2011
(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, BC) - Wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, visor and sunglasses, fans began cheering for former Toronto Blue Jays icon Roberto Alomar just seconds after he arrived at Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium on Monday morning to headline the list of guest instructors for the Honda Super Camp that runs through Wednesday, June 29th.

Alomar, along with former Blue Jays Duane Ward, Lloyd Moseby and Ed Sprague joined with Baseball Canada to give more than 150 local children hands-on baseball instruction.

"I am not sure who is more excited, me or my kids," says Glen Servais who drove down to Vancouver from Campbell River, B.C. on Sunday to ensure his kids Tyler and Sean got the chance to learn from Alomar and the Jays.

"My favourite part was hitting," adds Kaleb who was but a twinkle in his father's eye when the likes of Moseby, Sprague and Ward helped take the Blue Jays to the next level in the late 80's and early 90's.

The three-day camp began with an announcement from the Blue Jays, through the Jays Care Foundation, that committed $67,500 toward the Boys and Girls Club of Canada to establish a Blue Jays Baseball Academy Rookie League in each of the ten Honda Super Camp cities across the country.

Rawlings Canada also stepped forward with a generous donation of $100,000 worth of equipment.

The Honda Super Camp featuring Roberto Alomar continues through Wednesday, June 29th.
