(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - Not to be lost amidst the excitement of those being named to the 2018 Northwest League All-Star Game, a pair of Vancouver Canadians have been named Northwest League Player and Pitcher of the Week (July 23-29).
RHP Jose Espada received his first honour this season after going six innings of four hit baseball against Eugene on July 27th helping the Canadians to a 5-1 victory. This marks the second time Jose has received this distinction as the native of Ponce, Puerto Rico was named Pitcher of the Week on September 4th, 2017 helping Vancouver head into the post-season with some momentum.
OF McGregory Contreras was named Player of the Week after hitting .450 (9-for-20) with four doubles, a triple, and three home runs to help the Canadians to a 4-3 (.571) week. Contreras, 19, leads Vancouver with seven (7) home runs and RBI (20) through his 33 games this summer.
The Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club congratulates both Jose and McGregory for a wonderful week on the diamond. Vancouver wraps up it's five-game homestand with the Eugene Emeralds (Chicago Cubs) with the first pitch set for 7:05pm. The first 2,000 fans out to historic Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium will receive a complimentary water bottle presented by Wawanesa Insurance. Gates will open at 6:00pm.
Tonight's game can be heard live and in its entirety on TSN1040 with the A&B Tool Rentals Pre-Game show starting at 6:00pm and the call of the game at 7:05pm with Rob Fai.
The Canadians will embark on their longest road trip of the season starting Wednesday, August 1st with a five-game series against Hillsboro (Aug 1-5), then the 2018 NWL vs. PIO All-Star Game (Aug 6-8) followed by another five-game series in Salem-Keizer (Aug 9-13) before finally returning home to host a pair of three-game series against Tri-City (Aug 14-16) and Spokane (Aug 17-19).
