Variety Challenger Baseball Field taking shape
(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - As winter gives way to spring, the Vancouver Canadians Baseball Foundation is proud to inform fans that our newest addition to the Hillcrest Community is closer than ever to becoming a reality.
The Variety Challenger Baseball Field, located just steps away from historic Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium, is closing in on completion, as the efforts of Variety - The Children's Charity, Jays Care Foundation, the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation and the Vancouver Canadians Baseball Foundation are making this dream come true for countless children who play within the Challeger Baseball Leagues of the Lower Mainland.
Vancouver Canadians General Manager JC Fraser and Director of Community Relations Jeff Holloway presented a cheque to Ian McLean of Challenger Baseball during the 6th Annual Scotiabank Vancouver Canadians Baseball Foundation Hot Stove Luncheon which signaled the beginning of a process that would see the southeast corner of Hillcrest Community Centre transformed into a green space that would house a synthetic baseball field that would allow children with physical and cognitive challenges the chance to play baseball on a surface that had no impedmants or limitations.
The field, scheduled to open in the summer of 2016 has been a joint effort from a number of organizations from within the community including Variety - The Children's Charity, Jays Care Foundation and the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation as well as the Vancouver Canadians Baseball Foundation.
