Murphy dazzles in 1-0 loss to Everett
(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - An RBI double off the bat of Everett 1B Dimas Ojeda in the top of the 4th inning, scored 2B Donnie Walton from first base, proving to be the game's only run as the Aquasox shutout the Canadians 1-0. The loss was Vancouver's fifth straight.
Canadians RHP Patrick Murphy was spectacular in the loss, as the Chandler, AZ, native went a season-high seven innings, allowing just three hits and the lone run of the game. Relievers RHP Zach Jackson (1.1IP) and RHP Griffin Glaude (0.1IP) also held the Aquasox offense in check as the North Division leaders managed just five hits off of C's pitching.
Everett's arms were better, as Brandon Miller went six shutout innings, scattering five hits while striking out five to improve to 2-2 on the season. LHP Elliott Surrey (1.2IP) and LHP Tom Burrows (1.1IP) preserved the scoreless effort with Burrows securing his 4th save of the season.
Offensively for Vancouver, 2B Cavan Biggio and C Andres Sotillo went 2-for-3 on Tuesday night with the Canadians finishing 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position. The C's best chance at a run came in the bottom of the 8th inning with the bases loaded for Toronto Blue Jays 2nd round pick CF J.B. Woodman who was frozen on a 3-2 fastball offered up from LHP Tom Burrows, leaving all three runners on-base.
With the loss, Vancouver falls to 4-8 (.333) on the second half of the Northwest League season, and 20-30 (.400) overall. The win moves Everett to 8-4 (.667) on the second half and 26-24 (.523) through 50 regular season games. The Aquasox also improve to 6-1 (.833) in head-to-head action against Vancouver this season, and have won five straight over the Canadians.
Notes: The loss is Vancouver's 9th one-run loss of the 2016 season and 4th in the past five games… Vancouver has now lost 14 of its past 18 games dating back to July 19th.
Vancouver will play game two of this three-game series against Everett on Wednesday, August 10th at 7:05pm out at historic Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium with RHP T.J. Zeuch (0-0, 2.77) scheduled for three innings.
