(Volcanoes Stadium - Keizer, OR) - Canadians RHP Josh Winckowski (4-4, 2.96) has been named Northwest League Pitcher of the Week for a pair of efforts that stymied both Eugene (July 29) and Hillsboro (August 4). This marks the second consecutive week that a Canadians pitcher has received the weekly accolade (RHP Jose Espada).
Winckowski, 20, was dominant in his first of two starts going seven strong innings against Eugene out at historic Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium. Although he allowed nine hits on the afternoon, Winckowski only allowed one earned run, walking none and striking out four to help pace Vancouver to a 8-1 victory in a game where it was scoreless heading to the 6th inning.
The right-hander followed his effort up with perhaps an even better performance as he went right at Hillsboro out at Ron Tonkin Field going six strong innings allowing just three hits, no runs while striking out seven to lead the Canadians to a 2-0 victory. The C's score a lone un in the top of the 1st inning and didn't score again until they struck for an insurance run in the top of the 9th meaning Winckowski's margin for error was minimal.
Winckowski's next start will be in the series finale at Salem-Keizer on Monday, August 13th at 6:35pm and can be heard live at on TSN1040 Sports Radio as well as www.canadiansbaseball.com.
The Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club wishes to congratulate Josh on this distinction.
