Wisconsin's offense can't get going and team drops its fifth in a row

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Fort Wayne TinCaps jumped to an early 2-0 lead and the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers never recovered from the blow. Fort Wayne beat the Rattlers 4-1 Monday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The loss was the fifth in a row for Wisconsin.
The TinCaps (13-17) scored two unearned runs in the top of the first inning. Grant Little starting the inning with a one-out single. Justin Lopez followed with a sinking line drive that dropped in for a single and skipped past centerfielder Korry Howell. Little had scored an Lopez was at third by the time the ball made its way back to the infield. Dwayna Williams-Sutton was next and his fly out to deep right-center scored Lopez for the 2-0 lead.

Fort Wayne made it 3-0 in the top of the third. Jawuan Harris started the inning with a double. Then, Xavier Edward singled to knock in Harris.

Wisconsin (12-17) loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of third inning on a pair of walks and a bunt single. They scored a run on an RBI grounder off the bat of Brice Turang to get to within 3-1.

The TinCaps loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the fifth inning on two singles and a fielder's choice. They scored a run on an RBI grounder off the bat of Little to push their lead back to three runs.

Wisconsin had an opportunity to close the gap in the bottom of the fifth. Brent D
íaz singled with one out to knock starting pitcher Ramon Perez out of the game. Then, Korry Howell drew a walk and Brice Turang singled to right against reliever Dan Dallas to load the bases.

Dallas escaped the inning with no damage by getting a strikeout and a routine flyout to center. He would toss a 1-2-3 seventh inning to put himself in line for his first win of the season.

Cody Tyler, the third Fort Wayne pitcher of the game, worked around a two-out double by David Fry in the eighth and pitched a perfect ninth for his first save of the year.

The double by Fry was his twelfth of the season. He leads the Midwest League in doubles.

Reese Olson struck out three over three scoreless innings out of the Wisconsin bullpen.

The TinCaps, who had been 2-8 in their last ten games, ended a four-game losing streak with the win in the first game of the three-game series against the Rattlers.
Game two of the series is Tuesday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Adam Hill (2-2, 3.80) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Efraín Contreras (1-1, 4.30) is set to start for the TinCaps. Game time is 6:35pm.
