BELOIT, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers started their six-game road trip with a 3-0 loss to the Beloit Snappers on Monday night at Pohlman Field. Both teams were held to four hits, Beloit was able to do more with their meager offense and end a four-game losing streak in the process.
The Snappers (5-6) got help from the Rattlers to take the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Ryan Gridley doubled to center with one out to get into scoring position. Nick Ward was next and he pulled a ball to the right side of the infield. However, Wisconsin second baseman Antonio Piñero missed the ball for an error and Gridley scored for the 1-0 lead.

Both starting pitchers were out of the game after six innings. Chase Cohen struck out six, walked none, and allowed three hits as he kept the Rattlers off the scoreboard. Wisconsin starter Scott Sunitsch walked three, struck out two, allowed two hits, and gave up one unearned run.

Gridley added to the Beloit advantage with a two-run home run off Michael Mediavilla in the seventh inning. Gridley had three of his team's four hits in the game.

Wisconsin (5-6) had a rally going in the top of the eighth inning after reliever Eric Mari
ñez walked Piñero to start the inning and issued a free pass to Brice Turang with one out. Mariñez escaped the inning by striking out the next two batters. In the ninth, Mariñez, who just made the switch to the mound from being an infielder in the Oakland Athletics organization for many seasons this past offseason, worked a 1-2-3 frame to close out the Rattlers and collect his first save.

The Rattlers went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position as they stranded six runners in the game.

Game two of the series is scheduled for Tuesday night at Pohlman Field. Fabian Salaman (0-2, 11.05) has been named as the starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Adam Reuss (0-1, 5.00) is scheduled to start for the Snappers. Game time is 6:30pm. The broadcast is on AM1280, WNAM and the TuneIn Radio app starting with the Papa John's Pizza Pregame Show at 6:10pm.
