LAS VEGAS: The Las Vegas 51s professional baseball team of the Pacific Coast League (PCL), Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets, will face the Fresno Grizzlies, Triple-A affiliate of the Houston Astros, in the 35th season "Home Opener" in the Silver State on Tuesday, April 11 at Cashman Field at 7:05 p.m.
The first homestand of the 2017 campaign will consist of seven games against Fresno (four-game series, Tuesday-Friday, April 11-14) and the Sacramento River Cats, Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, in a three-game series from Saturday-Monday, April 15-17. All games will begin at 7:05 except for Easter Sunday (April 16) at 12:05 p.m.
The 51s opened the 2017 season with a five-game road trip in El Paso, Texas against the defending PCL champion, Chihuahuas, Triple-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres. The road trip will conclude on Monday, April 10.
The 51s, under first-year manager Pedro Lopez, enters its fifth season as the top affiliate of the Mets. Las Vegas has compiled an overall record of 309-267 (.536) entering the '17 season which included back-to-back PCL playoff appearances in 2013 & 2014.
The 51s organization have the proud distinction of being the longest enduring franchise in the history of professional sports in the state of Nevada. The 51s are 16-18 (.471) all-time in season openers and 18-16 (.529) all-time in home openers at Cashman Field (1983-2016).
2016 CASHMAN FIELD ATTENDANCE: In 68 dates (two rain outs), Las Vegas' total was 331,999 for an average of 4,882. The season-high "crowd" was an overflow sellout of 11,726 vs. Tacoma on April 28 for Fireworks/Star Wars Night and Las Vegas recorded a total of five sellouts. The Las Vegas franchise has reached the 300,000 plateau in "home" attendance in all 34 seasons (1983-2016). The all-time attendance total now stands at 11,309,728.
The "home opener" on Tuesday, April 11 with feature a "Dollar Menu" on selected food items such as hot dogs, pretzels, popcorn and churros!
Budweiser Dollar Beer Night will be presented in game three of the series against Fresno on Thursday, April 13. Dollar Beer Night will be featured at every Thursday home game during the 2017 season. Proper identification and wristbands are required for dollar beer night.
A spectacular post-game "Fireworks Show" will be presented in the finale of the series against the Grizzlies on Friday, April 14.
WestStar Credit Union "Winning Wednesday" will be featured seven times throughout the 2017 season. The dates are April 12; May 3 (school day game vs. Tacoma at 10:35 a.m.); May 17 vs. Iowa Cubs, June 14 vs. Sacramento; July 5 vs. El Paso; June 19 vs. Fresno; August 9 vs. Reno.
If the 51s WIN, fans can redeem their tickets for a future Sunday through Tuesday "home" game (excluding Tuesday, July 4). In addition, each "WestStar Winning Wednesday," one lucky fan will also be randomly selected to be the WestStar Winner of the Game! The winning fan will receive an autographed baseball from a 51s player, a seat upgrade for their group, and the opportunity to become the guest PA announcer for a half-inning that night!
51s "35 Seasons" Dry fit T-Shirt Night, to the first 2,500 fans through the gates, presented by Cox, will be presented in the series opener against Sacramento on Saturday, April 15 at 7:05 p.m.
The Sunday, April 16th matinee contest will feature an Easter Egg Hunt on the field that begins at 11:10 a.m. Children 12 and younger will be able to participate. The "Easter Seals Bunny" will be located on the concourse level to greet the children in attendance at the "Easter Seals" table.
The finale of the seven-game homestand on April 17 will welcome the return of "Smith's Value Menu Monday." Monday "home" games will feature a "Value Menu" for the ninth straight season! The 51s and Centerplate have teamed together for discounted food items on Hot Dogs, Popcorn, Peanuts, Cracker Jacks and Pretzels for just $1.00 per item.
Fresno's roster features five of the top 10 prospects in the Astros organization, according to Baseball America: Top prospect: right-handed pitcher Francis Martes; right-handed pitcher David Paulino (No. 3); first baseman A.J. Reed (No. 5); outfielder Teoscar Hernandez (No. 7) and outfielder Derek Fisher (No. 9).
Sacramento's roster features three of the top 10 prospects in the Giants organization, according to Baseball America: Top prospect: right-handed pitcher Tyler Beede; shortstop/third baseman Christian Arroyo (No. 2) and right-handed pitcher Joan Gregorio (No. 7).
The 51s, in conjunction with radio partner Lotus Broadcasting, are proud to announce that KOMP 92.3 FM will sponsor all Budweiser Dollar Beer Nights and KXPT 97.1 FM will sponsor selected promotion nights during the 2017 campaign.
The 51s will broadcast all games on Lotus Broadcasting on NBC Sports Radio AM 920 'THE GAME', which will carry live all 142 regular season games. Also, all games will be available on the 51s website (Major League Baseball Advanced Media, MLBAM) at www.LV51.com. Following the homestand, Las Vegas will embark on its second trip of the season with an eight-game Northern California road trip beginning on Tuesday, April 18 in Fresno, Calif., against the Grizzlies. The four-game series will conclude on Friday, April 21. The 51s will then face Sacramento in a four-game series from Saturday-Tuesday, April 22-25. The first scheduled off day for the PCL is Wednesday, April 26.
