June 26, 2014

KEIZER, Ore. - Shilo McCall hit a three run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday night to propel the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes to a 5-4 victory over the Everett AquaSox. The loss dropped the AquaSox to 4-9, and they remain six-and-a-half games behind division leading Spokane. The Indians come to Everett for a three game series beginning on Thursday.

Everett extended their lead to 2-0 in the third inning on an RBI double from Kyle Petty. Petty finished 3-for-4 with a run scored.

After the Volcanoes scored an unearned run in the third inning, they tied the score in the sixth at 2-2 on a fly ball that was lost in the lights by Everett right fielder Sheehan Planas-Arteaga. The ball hit the grass and became a two-out RBI double for Brett Kay.

Taylor Smart's two-out RBI single in the eighth gave the AquaSox the two run lead they carried into the ninth.

Four times in the five game series, the AquaSox took leads into the bottom of the ninth inning and gave up the lead on three occasions. Salem-Keizer scored two unearned runs for a walk-off win in game one. In game four, the Volcanoes scored a run to force extra innings in a game the AquaSox would eventually win in 13 innings.
