North Little Rock, AR-It was a long night at the ballpark in more ways than one for the Arkansas Travelers (22-23) as they fell to the Midland RockHounds (22-24), 9-3 on Wednesday night at Dickey-Stephens Park. The game was delayed 59 minutes at the start due to rain and then the Travs never led in the contest. Midland scored single runs in five of the first seven innings before blowing it open with a four run eighth. Both teams struggled for key hits as the RockHounds were only 4-19 with runners in scoring position while the Travs were 3-16 but saw just one of those three hits drive in a run.
Moments That Mattered
* Midland turned an inning opening base hit into a run six different times, beginning with the first frame. Brett Vertigan singled on a smash that knocked the shortstop off balance, stole second and came home on an RBI hit from Tyler Ramirez.
* Chuck Taylor's two out, two run single in the bottom of the fourth drew the Travs even.
* Vertigan singled to open the fifth, then J.P. Sportman reached on a throwing error. Sportman then stole second before Sean Murphy was intentionally walked to load the bases. Eli White's fielder's choice groundout then scored Vertigan to put Midland in front for good.
Notable Travs Performances
* LF Chuck Taylor: 2-5, 2 RBI
* 1B Dario Pizzano: 3-3, 2 BB, 2B
* SS Yonathan Mendoza: 2-4, run, SB
