McLean Homers, Ponies Fall to Senators Powered by Late Grand Slam

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (25-22) fell to the Harrisburg Senators, 7-2, on Friday night at Mirabito Stadium. Dérmis Garcia belted a grand slam in the ninth inning to put Harrisburg in control. The series is tied, 2-2.
With Harrisburg (29-20) ahead 3-1 in the ninth inning, J.T. Arruda drew a leadoff walk against Paul Gervase. Andrew Pinckney and Dylan Crews followed with walks. Gervase then struck out Brady House before Garcia belted the first pitch over the left-field wall to put Harrisburg up 7-1. It marked the first grand slam that Binghamton has allowed this season.
Robert Hassell III hit a leadoff solo home run on the second pitch of the game against Tyler Stuart (1-3), which put Harrisburg up 1-0. Arruda followed with a double and Pinckney drove him in with an RBI double that made it 2-0.
The Senators added another run in the third. Arruda drew a one-out walk and Pinckney followed with a single. With runners at the corners, Stuart attempted to pick off Pickney at first, but committed a throwing error that allowed Arruda to score and made it 3-0.
Binghamton got its first baserunner of the night when Matt Rudick hit a leadoff single against Andrew Alvarez (4-2) in the fourth inning. Later in the frame, Nolan McLean hit a two-out RBI double that drove in Rudick and cut the Ponies’ deficit to 3-1. It marked McLean’s first hit and first run batted in at Mirabito Stadium.
In the ninth inning, McLean crushed the first home run of his Double-A career. He drove in both of Binghamton’s runs, while recording his second multi-hit game and first multi-RBI game at the Double-A level.
The Rumble Ponies will continue their six-game series with the Harrisburg Senators (Double-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals) at Mirabito Stadium on Saturday night. First pitch is set for 6:07 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on MiLB.TV and WNBF News Radio 1290 & 92.1 FM.
Postgame Notes: Binghamton pitching issued 11 walks, which marked the most walks allowed since Binghamton issued 11 walks against Akron on April 3, 2014…Junior Santos and Trey McLoughlin combined to throw three scoreless innings, despite combining to walk five batters.
