Ponies’ Timely Hits, Solid Pitching Lead to Win over Somerset

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (4-9, 39-43) used timely hitting and solid pitching to defeat the Somerset Patriots 3-1 on Saturday night at Mirabito Stadium. The Ponies evened the three-game series at 1-1.

Right-handed pitcher Tyler Stuart took his Minor League-leading 1.55 ERA to the mound, and made his Double-A debut. Stuart tossed six innings of one-run baseball with five strikeouts in a no decision.

The Ponies got on the board in the first inning. Brandon McIlwain drove in Rowdey Jordan with a two-out RBI single to make it 1-0.

Somerset (6-7, 48-33) tied the game in the fifth inning when Jasson Domínguez hit a solo home run that made it 1-1.

Binghamton scored a run in the seventh to pull ahead. McIlwain led off the frame with his third single of the night. Later in the inning, Hayden Senger singled and Matt O’Neill drove in McIlwain with an RBI single to make it 2-1.

Up 2-1 in the eighth, Jose Peroza drilled a clutch two-out RBI double into the right-center gap that scored Jordan to give Binghamton a 3-1 lead.

Daniel Juarez tossed 1.2 scoreless innings with two strikeouts, while allowing just one hit. William Woods came in for the four-out save and struck out three batters. Juarez tallied his first win at the Double-A level and Woods picked up his second save.

The Rumble Ponies will finish their three-game series with the Patriots on Sunday night. First pitch is set for 5:05 PM and pregame coverage will get underway at 4:50 PM on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.

Postgame Notes: McIlwain had his team-leading 21st multi-hit game and third three-hit game…Jordan scored twice and reached base three times with a single and two walks…Jordan registered his third stolen base of the series.
