Ponies Win Conclusion of Tuesday’s Game, Fall in Hamel’s Career Night in Regularly Scheduled Contest

READING, Pa. – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (8-14, 43-48) won the conclusion of Tuesday’s suspended game over the Reading Fightin Phils 5-3, but fell in the regularly scheduled game 2-1 in extra innings despite a career night from Dom Hamel.

Continuation of Suspended Game on July 25: Rumble Ponies 5, Fightin Phils 3

The Ponies and Fightin Phils resumed action with one out in the bottom of the second inning on Wednesday evening, after Tuesday’s game was suspended.

The Ponies were held hitless into the seventh inning, until Agustin Ruiz hit a solo home run to tie the game 1-1. Reading (11-11, 39-51) quickly took the lead back on an RBI double from Carlos De La Cruz in the seventh that made it 2-1.

Binghamton then put together a four-run eighth inning, highlighted by a game-tying RBI single from Wyatt Young and a go-ahead three-run homer from Rowdey Jordan that made it 5-2.

Dylan Tebrake earned his first Double-A win, Matt Minnick tossed a perfect inning in relief, and Dedniel Núñez escaped trouble in the ninth with his second save of the year.

Regularly Scheduled Game on July 26: Fightin Phils 2, Rumble Ponies 1

Binghamton got on the board in the first inning after seven hitters came to the plate without recording a hit, and Young scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-0.

Hamel had a career night, as he struck out a career-high-tying 11 batters over a career-high-tying seven innings pitched. He allowed just one run on three hits with two walks. His seven innings set a Double-A career high.

Reading tied the game with an RBI double from De La Cruz in the sixth. In extra innings, Pedro Martinez scored the game-winning run on a walk-off walk from Jhailyn Ortiz that won the game 2-1.

The Rumble Ponies will continue their series with the Fightin Phils on Thursday night at FirstEnergy Stadium. First pitch is set for 7 PM and pregame coverage will begin at 6:50 PM on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.

Postgame Notes: Jordan has now hit five home runs and has recorded 11 runs batted in at Reading this season…The Ponies used seven pitchers in the series opener with two pitching in Tuesday’s portion and five appearing in Wednesday’s portion.
