The Birmingham Barons took down the Mississippi Braves 2-1 behind some tremendous defensive plays by the Barons. Starting pitcher Mason Adams threw a gem of a game, going 6.0 innings, giving up only five hits, no runs, and no walks with nine strikeouts.

Centerfielder Jacob Burke made two outstanding plays, and Terrell Tatum made a few good plays on left field to keep the Braves from scoring only their one run of the game.

In the bottom of the first inning, the Barons put a couple of runners on base, and Bryan Ramos hit a shot to left field to score Brooks Baldwin. The Barons took an early 1-0 lead with the Ramos RBI single.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Wilfred Veras hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Jason Matthews, who had a perfect bunt single to start the inning. The Barons took a 2-0 lead. In the top of the seventh inning, Bryson Horne's RBI double scored Geraldo Quintero, who reached on a catcher interference call. That cut the Barons lead to 2-1.

In the eighth inning, the Braves loaded the bases, but Adisyn Coffee came in and shut the door on a strikeout and a groundout at second to end the Braves scoring threat, and the Barons kept the 2-1 lead. Coffey pitched a solid ninth to nail down his first save of the season.

The Barons and Braves will play game two on Wednesday at 7:00 pm. Braves starter RHP Ian Mejia (0-0, 4.70) will face Barons starter LHP Ky Bush (0-0, 1.80) for Wet Nose Wednesday.
