The Birmingham Barons (9-11) fell in an offensive showdown, 9-8 to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (9-11) on Wednesday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium. Birmingham concludes its season-high 10-game road trip at 3-7 to remain in fourth place in the Southern League North division.

  • Turning Point: A 4-0 lead was not enough for the Barons as the Blue Wahoos stormed ahead in the middle innings with three runs in the fourth before batting around to add six more runs an inning later to take a commanding 9-4 lead.
  • Facts And Figures: Barons starter Ian Clarkin (L, 2-2) suffered his second straight loss in his shortest start of the season. He pitched to three hitters in the fifth, but couldn't record an out. Clarkin finished with six earned runs against on nine hits with three walks and two strikeouts in 4.0 innings.
  • Moments That Mattered: Trailing 9-5 with the bases loaded and nobody out in the sixth, the Barons were only able to get a single run on an Eloy Jiménez sacrifice fly as Zack Collins popped out and Matt Rose struck out to strand the tying runs.
  • By The Numbers: The Barons' series of power concluded with another impressive display on Wednesday. Jameson Fisher hit his third home run of the season in the sixth, a solo shot to cut the deficit to 9-5. In the eighth, Collins' two-run blast off the scoreboard in right field slashed the Blue Wahoos lead to 9-8, but Birmingham would get no closer. The Barons finished the five-game series with 11 home runs after hitting six over the first 15 games of the season.
  • Up Next: The Barons return home to begin a five-game series with the Biloxi Shuckers on Thursday night. First pitch at Regions Field is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Curt Bloom will have the call on 960 WERC News Radio and the iHeart Radio app.
