In a wild, back-and-forth affair, the Birmingham Barons (35-38) couldn't finish the job as the Montgomery Biscuits (39-36) rallied for an 8-7 walk-off win in 10 innings on Monday night at Riverwalk Stadium in game five of the six-game series.

  • Turning Point: After Birmingham took a 7-5 lead in the 10th, Matt Foster (L, 0-1) looked to retire the Biscuits to end the game in his second inning on the mound. He would only record one out. Nick Solak signed to put runners on the corners and Nate Lowe launched a three-run walk-off homer to end the game and hand the Barons their first extra-inning loss of the season.
  • Moments That Mattered: Down 3-0 after three innings, Birmingham came back to even the score on an RBI single from Jameson Fisher in the fourth and a two-run triple from Luis Basabe in the fifth. Again trailing 5-3 in the ninth, the Barons again rallied to tie the game while down to their last out as Joel Booker doubled off the left field wall to score Fisher and Alex Call, evening the score at 5-5.
  • By The Numbers: With two outs in the 10th, Danny Mendick provided the clutch hit the Barons needed by launching a two-run home run to left, giving the visitors a 7-5 lead. The home run was Mendick's 10th of the season, the first time a true Baron shortstop has recorded double-digit homers in a season since Jason Dellaero hit 10 in 1999.
  • Facts And Figures: Making his Double-A debut, Birmingham right-hander Dylan Cease got off to a rocky start as the second batter he faced, Ryan Boldt, homered to put Montgomery up 1-0. After giving up a run in both the second and third, Cease rebounded to retire the side in order and left with the two runners on in the fifth. However, Brian Clark couldn't get the final out as a two-run single gave the Biscuits the lead. Over 4.2 innings, Cease gave up five runs on seven hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.
  • Up Next: The series concludes with a 6:35 p.m. matchup on Tuesday night. Matt Tomshaw (2-4, 6.07) is set to start on the mound for Birmingham. Curt Bloom will have the call on 960 WERC News Radio and the iHeart Radio app.
