The Birmingham Barons dropped their third straight game of the series to the Biloxi Shuckers by a score of 18-1. In the loss, the Barons collected three hits and used a total of seven pitchers.

Newcomer RHP Josimar Cousin took the bump for the first time as Baron and dealt in his first half inning. Cousin went three-up three-down to kick off the game and his Double-A career. Birmingham bats, however, could not aid the right-hander.

The Shuckers in the top of the second got their first run of the night with an Ethan Murray single that scored Zavier Warren. The Barons would continue their drought at the plate until the third inning. Birmingham collected their lone hit in the bottom of the third inning on a single by Bryan Ramos. Ramos’ single would be the only hit for the first five innings.

Biloxi took an inning off from scoring in the third, however, got right back into scoring in the fourth, fifth and sixth. The Shuckers scored a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth adding three more in the sixth.

Cousin’s last inning was the fourth as he finished off with two straight outs. The right-hander finished his first start allowing seven hits, three earned runs, one walk and one home run to go with four strikeouts in his 4.0 innings pitched.

The Barons opted to go to the bullpen in the fifth and sixth with two RHP in Chase Plymell and Jared Kelley, respectively. Plymell allowed three hits, two earned runs and one walk in his lone inning of work. Kelley finished the sixth inning with three hits, three earned runs, one walk and one home run.

Birmingham mustered up some offense in the bottom half of the sixth with their second hit of the night. Wilfred Veras smacked his fourth home run of the season for the Barons and accounted for their lone run of the night thus far.

Despite the offense finding a little success, the Shuckers continued to pack on the runs. In the top of the seventh, Biloxi scored six runs in the frame. In the seventh, the Barons used a total of two pitchers in the inning. LHP Gil Luna started the inning on the bump and finished his 0.2 IP with three hits, six runs, two earned runs and three walks. LHP Fraser Ellard was called on to close out the last out in the seventh.

Ellard continued into the eighth, however, he could not finish the inning after Biloxi knocked two more runs in. The left-hander finished his 1.0 innings pitched with two hits, two earned runs, two walks and one strikeout. RHP Adisyn Coffey was the call to the pen to finish off the last out in the eighth.

In the bottom of the eighth, Alsander Womack kicked off the half inning with the Barons third hit of the night. After the single, Birmingham was down in three batters.

The Barons kicked off the ninth putting Jason Matthews on the bump as the game was all but decided. Matthews finished his night on the mound with four hits and two earned runs. Birmingham in the bottom of the ninth capped off the game in five batters.

The Barons now turn their efforts to Game 4 on Friday, September 8th. Birmingham is planning on tossing RHP Mason Adams on the mound for his second start with the Magic City.
