Clark Shutsdown Lookouts in the 9th, Barons Win 6-5 on Sunday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala -- With two runners in scoring position, relief pitcher Jonathan Clark struck out all three batters in the ninth inning as the Birmingham Barons won 6-5 over the Chattanooga Lookouts before 2,193 at Regions Field on Sunday afternoon. Clark came in the ninth inning, with no outs and runners on third and second base, and closed out the game for the Barons.

Birmingham (15-18, 41-61) scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning and has won five out of six games against the Lookouts in this series.

Starting pitcher Dylan Cumming got the no-decision, going four innings, giving up seven hits, five earned runs, and one walk with three strikeouts. Morris Austin pitched a perfect fifth inning with a strikeout. Mahias LaCombe pitched a perfect sixth inning with two strikeouts. Pierce George (3-1, 8.79) gets the win, going a perfect seventh inning. Jackson Kelley cruised through the eighth inning, only giving up a hit, but in the ninth inning, he gave up two hits and no outs to start the ninth inning. Insert Clark as he strikes out the next three batters to pick up his sixth save of the season.

Chattanooga (12-21, 49-53) scored first in the top of the first inning. A Leo Balcazar RBI single and a Carter Graham RBI single gave the Lookouts an early 2-0 lead. In the top of the second, Cam Collier hit a three-run home run, and the Lookouts led 5-0.

In the bottom of the second inning, Jose Colmenares singled to left field. With two outs, Alec Briley singled to right field, putting runners at second and third base. Caleb Bonemer reached on a fielding error, scoring Colmenares and Briley. The Barons trailed 5-2.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Samuel Zavala doubled off the right field wall. With two outs, Bonemer singled home Zavala, and the Barons trailed 5-3. Anthony DePino followed with a two-run home run on a fly ball over the left field fence, and the game was tied at 5-5.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Jorge Corona hit the go-ahead solo home run over the center field wall to give the Barons a 6-5 lead.

For the Barons, DePino and Corona hit home runs while Briley and Shelton had two hits apiece in the home win.

Up next, the Barons will face the Rocket City Trash Pandas for a six-game series in Madison, Alabama, starting on Tuesday. First pitch is at 6:35 pm.
