Barons Bested by Braves Offensive Outburst

BIRMINGHAM, AL -- The Birmingham Barons produced just four hits while allowing 16 knocks in a 7-1 loss to the Mississippi Braves in front of 8,033 fans at Regions Field.
Mel Rojas Jr. set the tone for the Atlanta Braves AA affiliate, launching a lead-off home run over the center field fence off Barons starter Brandon Brennan to give Mississippi a 1-0 advantage early.
The M-Braves continued to chip away at Barons pitching, scoring in five different innings and compiling 13 singles. Top prospect Dansby Swanson posted Mississippi's lone double of the night while catcher Willians Astudillo added a 4-for-4 night at the plate.
Brennan allowed just four runs on 10 hits in five innings pitched, surrendering no walks and striking out two Braves batters. Reliever Andre Wheeler allowed two runs and fanned five in his second AA outing before Robinson Leyer closed the game with two innings out of the Barons bullpen.
Catcher Jeremy Dowdy posted two of Birmingham's four hits, scoring the Barons lone run on a throwing error in the seventh inning. Eddy Alvarez recorded the RBI. Adam Engel extended his hitting streak to six games.
Southpaw David Holmberg looks to even the series tomorrow evening as the Barons and Braves face off at Regions Field. The veteran Holmberg has recorded three straight wins, and allowed just two earned runs in seven innings during his last home start.
