The Birmingham Barons emerged victorious over the Montgomery Biscuits by a score of 7-1. In the victory, the Barons collected nine hits and used a total of three pitchers.

To kick off the game RHP Matt Thompson got himself into some trouble early. In the top of the first inning as the Biscuits got after the right-hander early scoring one run in the top of the frame. Thompson got himself out of the inning with limited damage but knew that he had to turn around his efforts quickly.

The Chicago White Sox No. 18 prospect gathered himself after the first and produced four three-up three-down innings. In his immaculate innings, Thompson sat down 12 straight batters with his extreme efficiency.

The Barons bats rewarded the prospects' efforts with a five-run frame in the bottom of the third. Jose Rodriguez was the man to get the scoring party started with his 18th home run of the season. Rodriguez’s homer came with Alsander Womack and Terrell Tatum on-base. The Barons did not stop there as Wilfred Veras smacked his third home run of the season with Bryan Ramos on-base. Veras extended the Barons lead to 5-1 in the third.

After Thompson’s third stellar inning in the top of the fourth, the Barons added to their lead with Rodriguez being the man again. “Popeye” smacked in his fourth RBI of the night on a bloop single to center field and scored Tim Elko.

Moving to the top of the fifth, Thompson stacked his fourth inning in which he sat the Biscuits down in order and collected his first strikeout. The Barons bats did not cool down, a double by Ramos and a single by Veras, respectively, secured the then 7-1 lead. Veras picked up his third RBI of the night with his second hit of the night.

Thompson in the sixth may not have sat the Biscuits down in order, however, he did in four batters. The prospect also collected his second strikeout of the night to cap off the half inning and his final inning on the mound. Thompson finished his night with two hits, one earned run, three walks and two strikeouts in 6.0 IP.

LHP Haylen Green took over the mound in the top of the seventh and continued Thompson’s dominance. Green sat down Montgomery in order with back-to-back ground outs and a pop up in six pitches. The southpaw continued in the eighth with confidence and turned that into a three-batter inning. Green finished the inning with a 4-6-3 double play, keeping all the momentum in the home team's dugout.

LHP Fraser Ellard was tasked with the ninth inning and the potential to seal the game in three outs. Ellard capped off the game in four batters with a fly out and two back-to-back strikeouts. Ellard only allowed one hit in his lone inning.

Birmingham pulls off the victory in Game 2 against Montgomery and evens the series. The Barons turn their efforts to Game 3 in a Thursday night battle with White Sox No. 7 prospect, LHP Ky Bush, taking the mound.
