BOWLING GREEN, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods defeat the Dayton Dragons by a score of 14-1 in a game that was completed early due to rain in the bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Tommy Romero made his first start of the season for the Hot Rods and RHP Tobias Myers pitched the rest of the game out of the pen.
The Hot Rods struck first in the very first inning when 2B Vidal Brujan singled, advanced to second on a balk, and scored on an error off the bat of C Ronaldo Hernandez . The Hot Rods added on three more runs in the third which start when SS Zach Rutherford hit a solo home run to lead off the inning. Hernandez followed up with a single and would come around to score along with CF Emilio Gustave.
Romero made his first start of the season for the Hot Rods and threw three and one-thirds innings allowing one hit, two walks, and recorded four strikeouts. Myers pitched four and two-this innings in relief and allowed three hit, one run, no walks, and three strikeouts.
Bowling Green added on a run in the fourth when Hernandez scored Rutherford with a RBI single. The Hot Rods added four more runs in the fifth with three hits, two walks, and a sac fly and had a 9-1 lead.
The Dragons scored their lone run of the game in the fifth when SS Jose Garcia hit a triple to left and scored on a sac fly from CF Miles Gordon .
Things got weird in the bottom of the eighth inning after a 22 minute rain delay. SS Zach Rutherford appeared to hit a grand slam to left field that would have made the score 15-1. However Dayton decided to appeal that Brujan missed home plate on the home run. He was ruled out and his run was taken off the board before the game was ruled official making the final score 14-1. That scored tied a franchise record for margin of victory. Rutherford also tied the franchise record for RBI in a game with six.
Next up the Hot Rods hit the road and travel to Fort Wayne for a three game set with the TinCaps. All three games will have a 6:05pm central time first pitch. Starters for the series have not been announced.
