Geneva, IL - After having their nine-game win streak halted the previous night, the Bowling Green Hot Rods started a new win streak a 2-1 victory against the Kane County Cougars at Northwestern Medicine Field on Thursday night.
The Hot Rods got a great outing from three pitchers, starting with righty Angel Yepez (W, 1-0).
In just his second start of the season with the Hot Rods, Yepez gave up just one run on four hits to earn the win. His only blemish was a RBI triple from Cougars shortstop Raymel Flores in the third inning.
Overall, Yepez has given up just two runs in his two starts, spanning 8.2 innings pitched.
To secure the win for Yepez and the Hot Rods, righties Joe Serrapica and Orlando Romero (S, 5) each tossed two scoreless innings to finish the game.
For Romero, he is now 5-for-5 in converting save chances this year with the two-inning save.
Serrapica and Romero combined to strike out eight batters.
Offensively, the Hot Rods scored their first run in the second inning on a run-scoring single by infielder Mike Brosseau. An error on the play allowed catcher Jonah Heim to score.
With the game tied 1-1 in the sixth inning, the Hot Rods scored the eventual game-winning run against MLB rehabber J.J Hoover (L, 0-1).
As Hoover entered the game to start the frame, a single by Heim and a double from infielder Robbie Tenerowicz put runners on second and third with nobody out.
With the win, the Hot Rods have now won 10 of their last 11 games. They have also won their last four games decided by one run.
The Hot Rods will try to continue their winning ways on Friday as during their six-game roadtrip against the Western Division with the rubbermatch a three-game set against the Kane County Cougars.
Bowling Green will send LHP Kenny Rosenberg to the mound while Kane County will counter with a pitcher that is still to be determined.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM. All games during this roadtrip will be played in central time.
