Byron Buxton Named Southern League Player of the Week

MiLB's #1 Prospect hit .483 (14-for-29) with four triples and 11 runs scored
May 4, 2015

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Today, the Southern League announced that Chattanooga Lookouts' outfielder Byron Buxton has been named its Player of the Week for April 27- May 3.

Since Monday, the number one prospect in all of Minor League Baseball has been on a tear. Over his last seven games the outfielder has raised his average from .190 to .287 and has recorded a hit in each contest. During his hitting streak Buxton has collected multiple hits five times and has belted four triples. He also stole five bases and scored 11 runs last week which is the highest total in all of Minor League Baseball in that span.

The highlight of Buxton's stellar week came on Saturday, May 2, when he belted two triples and a double. The game was the first time Buxton hit two triples since 7/23/2013 (Ft. Myers) and the first time he had three extra-base hits in a game since 6/5/2013 (Cedar Rapids).

Today's award marks the first time Buxton will take home a weekly accolade at the Double-A level. The last time he earned a player of the week award was on 7/29/2013 when he was with the Fort Myers Miracle. This is the second time this season a Lookouts player has been given a weekly award by the Southern League. Lookouts right-hander Tyler Duffey took home Southern League Pitcher of the Week (April 9 - 19) after tossing 13.2 scoreless innings to begin the season.

Tonight, Buxton and the Lookouts face off against the Jacksonville Suns in the final game of their five-game series. RHP DJ Baxendale (2-0, 1.07) takes the mound at 7:15pm against RHP Kendry Flores (1-3, 3.57).

After an off day tomorrow the Lookouts begin a five-game series against the Jackson Generals at AT&T Field. Highlights of that homestand include Thirsty Thursday on May 7, Trip Giveaway Night (CHA Airport) on Friday, May 8 and Negro League Appreciation Night (Erlanger Health System) on Saturday, May 9. Tickets to Lookouts Baseball presented by FSG Bank are available now online and by calling the box office at 423-267-4TIX.
