The 2017 World Baseball Classic begins on March 6. The tournament features 16 countries with games played at sites around the globe. Games will be televised on MLB Network.
There are five former El Paso Chihuahuas participating in this year's WBC:
RHP Tayron Guerrero, Colombia: Guerrero pitched for El Paso in 2015 and 2016 and made his MLB debut with the San Diego Padres last year before being traded to the Miami Marlins on July 29, 2016.
OF Reymond Fuentes, Puerto Rico: Fuentes was on the inaugural Chihuahuas roster and recorded the first hit in team history. He could share an outfield with his cousin, Houston Astros' star Carlos Beltran, in the World Baseball Classic.
INF Cody Decker, Israel: Decker hit 48 home runs in a Chihuahuas uniform, which remains the team record. He will begin the 2016 season in the Milwaukee Brewers organization.
INF Yangervis Solarte, Venezuela: Solarte came down to El Paso for two MLB injury rehab games in May 2016. He hit a walk-off single versus Round Rock on May 19.
RHP Leonel Campos, Venezuela: Campos was a member of the Chihuahuas in 2014, 2015 and 2016. He was claimed on waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays in November 2016.
