Gamboa Laces a Triple, Threshers Lose 4-1 Against Dunedin

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Arquimedes Gamboa whacked his fourth triple of the season to break up a shut out on Thursday night, but the Threshers dropped their last matchup with the Blue Jays 4-1 at Spectrum Field.
Gamboa did not play in either of the first two games against the Blue Jays (33-27) (64-64) earlier in the week. His four triples are tied with Raul Rivas for the most on the team.
As the clock winds down to ten games left in the regular season, Clearwater (70-57) (38-21) remains on top of the FSL North. The Lakeland Flying Tigers trail by four games after their loss to Daytona on Thursday, and Dunedin edges up to five games behind the Threshers.
Dunedin drove in the first two runs of the ballgame in the third inning. Kacy Clemens led off with a groundball through into center field, and Rodrigo Orozco blasted a two-run shot over the right field wall to give Dunedin the early 2-0 lead.
The Blue Jays threatened in the fifth, but Adonis Medina (9-4) worked his way out of the inning.
Ivan Castillo drew a lead-off walk, but was caught stealing during Nash Knight's at bat. Knight walked to replace Castillo at first, and Josh Palacios slipped a groundball past the third base bag for a two-out double. With two men in scoring position, Medina elicited a groundball from Orozco that came back to the hill, and the pitcher made the throw on to first to get the final out of the inning.  
Dunedin extended their advantage in the eighth. Kevin Smith lined a base hit into left field and stole second. Jakob Hernandez struck out Brock Lundquist for the first out, but Riley Adams mashed a line drive to left to increase the lead to 3-0.
Clearwater answered with a run of their own in the home half of the inning. Raul Rivas knocked a single into left to put the leadoff man on for the Threshers, and he advanced to second on a ground out. Gamboa stepped up to the plate and ripped a line drive triple to the warning track in right field to break up the shutout and put the Threshers on the board 3-1.
In the ninth inning, the Blue Jays added on some insurance. With one away, Kacy Clemens drew a one-out walk off the new pitcher Jonathan Hennigan. Nash Knight followed with a grounder into right field for a base hit. The runners moved up on an error by Hennigan, and Orozco drove home Clemens with a ground ball single to right to put the Jays up 4-1.
Medina was ticketed with the loss. He allowed two runs on four hits, tallying up four walks and four strikeouts.
Jakob Hernandez limited Dunedin to one run off two hits while permitting one walk and collecting two strikeouts in two innings of work.
Jonathan Hennigan surrendered one unearned run on two hits, accumulating one strikeout and one walk in one inning of relief.
The action continues Friday night as the Threshers transform into the Beach Dogs for "What Could Have Been" Night. Alejandro Requena (3-4) gets the nod for the new dogs in town against FSL South divisional leader the Charlotte Stone Crabs.
