Clearwater Collects Four Extra-Base Hits Over Two Games

GAME 1 BOX SCORE:

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL – Four players for the Clearwater Threshers (31-12) recorded multi-hit games, but the Threshers dropped both games of a doubleheader against the St. Lucie Mets (12-31) 9-2 and 4-3 on Saturday night at Clover Park. The Threshers look to capture their second series victory against St. Lucie on Sunday afternoon.

A two-run home run and an RBI single made it 3-0 Mets after the game resumed in the bottom of the first inning. Another run came home in the bottom of the fourth to extend the Mets’ advantage to 4-0.

Chad Castillo reached base with a one-out double off Mets reliever Douglas Orellana in the sixth and moved to third on an infield single by Emaarion Boyd. After stealing second, Boyd and Castillo scored on a two-run single by Freylin Minyety that cut the Mets' lead in half to 4-2.

Jett Williams extended the Mets’ lead in the home half of the sixth with a bases-clearing double that made it 7-2. The Mets added two more runs in the eighth and finished their first win against the Threshers by a 9-2 score.

Alex McFarlane (0-3) took the loss in 3.2 innings, allowing four runs on three hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Danny Wilkinson allowed three runs on two hits in 2.0 innings with one walk and three strikeouts. Alex Rao allowed one hit and struck out one in 1.1 innings. Jaydenn Estanista allowed two runs on three hits with one strikeout in 1.0 inning.

GAME TWO

LP: Jean Cabrera (1-2, 5.79)

GAME 2 BOX SCORE:

In the second game of the twin bill, Scott Ota opened the scoring with a two-out triple to put St. Lucie ahead 2-0 in the first. Gabriel Rincones Jr. led off the second with a double off Mets starter Jordanny Ventura. He advanced to third on a groundout and scored on an RBI single by Felix Reyes that cut the lead in half to 2-1.

The first three batters reached for the Threshers in the third, with back-to-back walks to Erick Brito and Ricardo Rosario and Justin Crawford reaching on a hit-by-pitch. Rincones Jr. tied up the game, plating Brito from third and beating out a fielder’s choice to even up the game at two.

St. Lucie battled back with five hits and two runs in the home half of the third to retake the lead 4-2. Jordan Viars led off the sixth with a double to left and advanced to third on a groundout. Cole Moore sent a fly ball deep to center that allowed Viars to score from third and cut the deficit to 4-3.

Despite a walk to Ricardo Rosario that put the tying run on in the seventh, the Threshers couldn’t bring him home and fell 4-3 to the Mets.

Jean Cabrera (1-2) took the loss in 5.0 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits with four strikeouts. Andrew Walling threw a scoreless sixth with one hit allowed and one strikeout.

Clearwater lost consecutive games for the first time since April 13-14 at home against Fort Myers... Crawford had his third three-hit game of his career in game one... It was also his fifth multi-steal game... Moore drove in his first run since his home run against Tampa in April... Kemp’s on-base streak ended at 29... It is the second-longest on-base streak in the Florida State League this season... The Threshers complete their series against the St. Lucie Mets (Single-A, New York Mets) on Sunday afternoon… First pitch is at 12:10 PM on Sunday, May 28th...
