Six Division I Commits from Vets, King Highlight Baseball Preseason All-Stars

CORPUS CHRISTI - Six of the 14 players on the 2020 South Texas Preseason Large School Baseball All-Star Team announced Thursday are committed to Division I programs, with three hailing from both Veterans Memorial and King high schools.
Six area schools make up the loaded team, set to be honored at the 16th annual South Texas Winter Baseball Banquet, presented by Whataburger, on Thursday, January 30.
Vets leads the way with four total all-stars, including senior designated hitter MJ Rodriguez (Oklahoma State signee), senior outfielder Kobe Andrade (Texas A&M signee) and junior first baseman Daylan Pena (Texas State commit) joined by senior third baseman Alex Pena. Rodriguez and Daylan Pena were named first-team all-district in 2019 at catcher and first base, respectively.
King senior shortstop Orlando Salinas will team up with Rodriguez at Oklahoma State, while the battery of King pitcher Derek Saenz and catcher Scott Sibenthall will carry onto Incarnate Word together.

The all-stars were nominated and voted on by 15 area Class 5A high school head coaches.
