The Dunedin Blue Jays (29-26) fell 8-1 Friday night in the finale of a four-game set with the Jupiter Hammerheads (23-31), completing a series sweep for Jupiter and knocking Dunedin into third place in the Florida State League's North Division. The Blue Jays, who entered the series in first place, scored just 12 runs in the series while making 12 errors.
LHP Angel Perdomo started for the Blue Jays and carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning. Jupiter finally reached Perdomo in the sixth inning, scoring four runs on four hits and two Blue Jays errors. For the second straight night, a Blue Jays starter took the loss in the game while not allowing any earned runs. Perdomo finished the night with a line of 6.0 innings pitched, four hits and four runs allowed, two walks, and five strikeouts.
As well as Perdomo pitched, Jupiter starter Trevor Richards was simply better. Richards allowed just one hit, a third inning single to Josh Almonte, over 6.0 brilliant innings, striking out 11 batters.
RHP Tom Robson threw a pair of scoreless innings of relief for the Jays to keep Dunedin in the game, but Jupiter broke back out in the ninth inning, tagging RHP Connor Eller for four runs on five hits to take an 8-0 lead. 2B Cavan Biggio hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth, his second on the season and just the Jays second hit of the night, to keep Dunedin from being shutout.
With the loss, Dunedin now sits 2.0 games behind the Clearwater Threshers in the North Division with two weeks remaining in the season's first half. The Blue Jays travel to Daytona tomorrow to begin a crucial four-game series against the Tortugas, who also sit 2.0 games behind Clearwater in second place, leading Dunedin in winning percentage. The first pitch of the Saturday evening series opener will be at 7:05 PM.
