The SeaWolves (3-2) fell in a one-run contest to Binghamton (2-3) on Wednesday, losing 4-3.

Troy Melton made his Double-A debut on the mound for Erie. He worked around runners in scoring position in the first two frames before Binghamton broke through in the third.

In that third inning, Wyatt Young and Rhylan Thomas singled before Alex Ramirez’s sacrifice fly scored the first run of the game.

Erie knotted the game up in the bottom of the fourth inning against Rumble Ponies starter Tyler Stuart. Hao-Yu Lee began the frame with a sun-aided double that alluded Ramirez. He later scored on Stephen Scott’s single, tying the game at 1-1.

Binghamton jumped ahead in the fifth inning against Jake Higginbotham. With two out, Jett Williams plated Matt O’Neill from first on an RBI triple. He then scored on Thomas’ single. The Ponies led 3-1.

The SeaWolves rebounded instantly with two of their own in the bottom half of the fifth. Luis Santana began the inning with a double. Ben Malgeri singled him to third. Then, as Malgeri stole second base, a throwing error by O’Neill allowed Santana to score. Lee then scored Malgeri on a game-tying single.

Binghamton went ahead for good in the eighth inning against Erie reliever Calvin Coker. Thomas’ third hit of the game was a leadoff double. He stole third and scored on Kevin Parada’s sacrifice fly.

Erie’s offense managed nine hits against Stuart in 4.2 innings but only mustered two singles against three Binghamton relievers in 4.1 innings of relief.

Hunter Parson (1-0) was the winning pitcher. Coker (0-1) took the loss. Wilkin Ramos secured his second save.

The series continues at 6:05 p.m. on Thursday as Lael Lockhart makes his second start of the season against Joander Suarez.
