The SeaWolves (1-0) opened the 2024 season with a 2-0 shutout victory over the Harrisburg Senators (0-1).

Erie did not have a base hit through five innings against Harrisburg starter Andrew Alvarez, who walked two and struck out seven. They broke through in the sixth against reliever Holden Powell when TJ Hopkins doubled with two out ahead of Chris Meyers’ two-run home run.

Lael Lockhart tied a career-high with nine strikeouts over 4.1 innings for Erie. He allowed three hits and two walks. A hit and both walks loaded the bases with one out in the fifth against him. Bryce Tassin entered and stranded the runners with a strikeout of Dylan Crews and a groundout by Robert Hassell III.

Tassin, Wilkel Hernandez, Blair Calvo, and Andrew Magno tossed scoreless relief to close out the Senators. Hernandez tossed a perfect seventh inning in his Double-A debut. Calvo worked around two walks and a hit in a scoreless eighth. Magno earned his first save of the season with a perfect ninth.

Erie pitching struck out 16 Senators in the win. It’s the second consecutive season that Erie has opened the year with a shutout win.

Tassin (1-0) earned the win. Powell (0-1) took the loss.

The series continues at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday as Ty Madden makes his season debut against Cole Henry.
