The SeaWolves (4-3) and Rumble Ponies (3-4) split a doubleheader on Saturday, with Binghamton winning game one 9-2 and Erie walking off the Ponies in game two with a 7-6 win in eight innings.

Erie struck first in the first game on Stephen Scott’s first home run with Erie in the second inning. Brady Allen then doubled and scored on Eliezer Alfonzo’s two-out, RBI single.

After Jackson Jobe retired the first six Ponies in order, he struggled in the third inning. Binghamton scratched out two runs on a pair of walks, Jose Peroza’s double, and RBI groundouts by Wyatt Young and Rowdey Jordan. The game was tied, 2-2.

It remained tied until the sixth inning when Kevin Parada blasted a go-ahead solo home run against Lael Lockhart, who was working in relief.

In the seventh inning, Peroza cracked another solo blast against Lockhart, which made it 4-2. From there, Binghamton started to pile on. Lockhart and Blair Calvo could not put the inning to bed. Joel Peguero entered with the bases loaded and surrendered a run-scoring walk. Then, Brandon McIlwain tripled home three more and scored on Gage Workman’s throwing error on a relay to third base. Binghamton scored six times in the seventh to lead 9-2.

Nolan Clenney (1-0) was the winning pitcher in game one. Lockhart (0-1) took the loss in relief.

In game two, Binghamton scored an early run against Ty Madden when Jett Williams, who led off the game by reaching on Hao-Yu Lee’s throwing error, scored on a wild pitch.

Erie jumped in front in the bottom of the frame on a two-run home run by Jake Holton against Binghamton starter Troy Miller. The SeaWolves tacked on a run in the second Gage Workman reached on an error by Alex Ramirez and scored on Daniel Cabrera’ sacrifice fly.

The Rumble Ponies fought back to take the lead in the third against Madden. Three batters reached to load the bases with no outs. Ramirez’s grounded out to score one run. Jeremiah Jackson’s two-run single scored the other two and gave Binghamton a 4-3 lead.

Jackson blasted a two-run home run against Angle Ramirez to widen Binghamton’s lead to 6-3 in the fifth inning.

In the sixth inning, a double by Chris Meyers and a walk to Holton brought the tying run to the plate. Workman, facing Trey McLoughlin, blasted a three-run home run to tie the game at six.

In the eighth, Andrew Magno pitched a scoreless top half thanks to an outfield assist by Brady Allen. In the bottom half, with Meyers at third and two out and Workman batting, reliever Carlos Guzman uncorked a wild pitch. Meyers scored the winning run to secure the doubleheader split for Erie.

Magno (2-0) picked up the win. Guzman (0-1) took the loss.

Erie sends Wilkel Hernandez to the mound as Erie looks to take the series on Sunday. He’ll be opposed by Binghamton right-hander Cameron Foster.
