Workman's Walk-Off Seals Another Erie Comeback Win in Extras

For a second straight night, the SeaWolves (11-7) forced extras with a late comeback before beating Harrisburg (8-10) on a walk-off RBI. Erie defeated Harrisburg 5-4 in 10 on Friday.

Harrisburg got off to a hot start against Erie starter Wilkel Hernandez. Hernandez allowed five singles and three runs in the first inning. Yohandy Morales, Dérmis Garcia, and Cody Wilson had RBI singles. Harrisburg led 3-0. Hernandez, who threw 31 pitches, did not return for the second inning.

The Senators added to their lead in the fourth against Erie reliever Calvin Coker. Cortland Lawson led off the inning with a double. He scored on J.T. Arruda’s RBI single, which made it 4-0.

Erie failed to score against Harrisburg starter Brad Lord. He tossed five innings and allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out six.

In the eighth, the SeaWolves mounted their comeback. Trei Cruz opened the frame with a walk against reliever Daison Acosta. Hao-Yu followed with his second double of the game. TJ Hopkins walked to load the bases. Acosta then threw a wild pitch, which scored Cruz to make it 4-1.

Jake Holton hit a routine ground ball to the shortstop Lawson. He could not field it cleanly, and two runs scored on his fielding error. Later in the frame, with Holton on third and Chris Meyers on first and one out, Carlos Mendoza plated the game-tying run on a soft groundout.

In the 10th, Erie set the table with runners on the corners and one out against Ty Tice. Gage Workman lined the game-winning single to center field, giving Erie its second consecutive walk-off win in 10 frames.

Joel Peguero (1-0) earned the win in relief. Trevin Michael, Coker, Jake Higginbotham, Tim Naughton, and Peguero combined for nine innings of one-run relief out of the Erie bullpen. Tice (1-1) took the loss.

Troy Melton opposed Kyle Luckham at 1:35 p.m. on Saturday as the six-game series continues.
