For the second straight season, the Ems will be in the Northwest League Playoffs, which are slated to begin on Tuesday, September 5th, in Eugene at PK Park. In a best of 3-game series, Eugene will take on 1st half South Division Champion, the Hillsboro Hops, a rematch of last season's first round matchup. Games 2 and 3 would be at Ron Tonkin Field in Hillsboro on Wednesday, September 6th, and Thursday, September 7th if necessary. The winner moves on to a best-of-5 series against the North Champion for the Northwest League Championship, beginning on Friday.
After their 8-3 victory in Salem, players and coaches waited patiently to see the final from Boise, needing a loss from the Hawks to clinch the final playoff spot. Once the final out was recorded in a 14-7 Hillsboro victory, celebration ensued as the Ems clinched back-to-back playoff appearances for the first time since the 1985-86 seasons. Manager Jesus Feliciano is the first Ems' manager to bring back-to-back playoff appearances to the franchise, as the two previous times had been with different managers at the helm in each season (1974-75 & 1985-86).
Now, the real defense of their 2016 Northwest League Championship begins. Game 1 is slated to begin at 7:05pm at PK Park on Tuesday, with Emeralds' ace Jose Albertos getting the start. Get your tickets now for the title defense!
