AquaSox & Mariners Extend Relationship 4 Years

Everett will host short-season affiliate through 2020
September 7, 2016

EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett AquaSox and the Seattle Mariners have agreed to a four-year extension to the Player Development Contract, binding the team's affiliation through the 2020 season. The AquaSox play their home games at Everett Memorial Stadium, located in Everett, Wash. Seattle and Everett are fewer than thirty miles apart.

"The AquaSox are ecstatic to announce the extension of our PDC with the Mariners through the 2020 season," AquaSox General Manager Danny Tetzlaff said. "We have one of the longest standing PDC's in the league. Our relationship with the Mariners goes all the way back to 1995 and we could not be happier to be a part of their first-class organization."

The AquaSox have been the Class A Short-Season affiliate of the Seattle Mariners since the 1995 season. Everett has produced numerous Major Leaguers during their affiliation with the Mariners, including current M's Felix Hernandez, Mike Zunino, Ketel Marte and Dan Altavilla.

"The Mariners are excited to be able to extend our relationship with the Everett AquaSox, Mariners Director of Player Development Andy McKay said. "We are in a unique situation with having a Northwest affiliate so close to Seattle and the city of Everett and the AquaSox fan-base have always been great supporters of our minor leaguers and the entire Mariners organization. We are looking forward to continuing to bring a great brand of baseball to the area for years to come."

"The Everett AquaSox are fortunate to have such a great relationship with Seattle Mariners personnel, on and off the field." President of 7th Inning Stretch Pat Filippone said. "We look forward to continuing our relationship with the Mariners for the next four years and beyond." 7th Inning Stretch owns three minor league organizations, the Stockton Ports, Delmarva Shorebirds and the Everett AquaSox.

In addition to being the home to players just beginning their career, Everett has served as a great place for Seattle Mariners to rehab from injury. During the 2016 season six Mariners visited Everett, Charlie Furbush, Nick Vincent, Steve Cishek, Wade Miley, Ketel Marte and Felix Hernandez.

The affiliation - which will reach 25 straight seasons in 2020 - has become a stalwart in the Pacific Northwest, providing a great brand of baseball to the city of Everett.

The AquaSox are currently in their quest to capture a second NWL Championship as a Mariners affiliate, the first coming in 2010. If they AquaSox advance to the NWL Championship Series, they will host game one on Sunday, September 11. Tickets are still available by calling the AquaSox front office at (425) 258-3673 or visit www.aquasox.com.
