Frogs post season highs in runs and hits in 13-4 blowout of Eugene

EUGENE, Ore. - Austin Shenton batted 3-for-6 with three RBI and was a homer shy of the cycle, as the Everett AquaSox exploded for a season-high in runs and hits in a 13-4 win over the Eugene Emeralds on Thursday. Of the AquaSox 14 hits, eight were for extra bases.

EUGENE, Ore. - Austin Shenton batted 3-for-6 with three RBI and was a homer shy of the cycle, as the Everett AquaSox exploded for a season-high in runs and hits in a 13-4 win over the Eugene Emeralds on Thursday. Of the AquaSox 14 hits, eight were for extra bases. Their three triples tied a franchise record.

Everett went up 4-0 in the second after Cesar Izturis Jr. hit an RBI single and Shenton hit a two-run single. They later scored in three additional innings, including a six-run fourth, when Cash Gladfelter hit a three-run triple. Gladfelter was 2-for-5 and scored twice. DeAires Moses hit a two-run home run and scored two runs.
Everett right-hander Juan Mercedes (2-2) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing two runs on six hits over six innings. Mercedes struck out a season-high six batters. Opposing starter Yunior Perez (0-3) took the loss after giving up four runs and five hits over 1 2/3 innings.
Jose Gutierrez homered and singled, driving home two runs for the Emeralds. Edmond Americaan doubled and singled.
With the win, the AquaSox pulled into a tie for second place with Tri-City. Both clubs trail first-place Spokane by one game in the North Division.
