Fayetteville, NC - The Fayetteville Woodpeckers, in conjunction with Minor League Baseball, have announced that infielder Caden Powell has been named the Carolina League Player of the Week for the week ending on May 4th, 2025. This is the first time during the 2025 season that a Woodpeckers’ position player has earned a weekly league award.

Powell had a huge showing at the plate across a six-game home series against the Delmarva Shorebirds, going 8-for-24 (.467 OBP) with four HR, seven RBI, seven runs scored, six walks and two stolen bases. Over the span of the six games, he tallied two multi-hit games, three multi-RBI games and became the first player this season to homer twice in a contest.

His first big performance of the week came in game two of the series on Wednesday afternoon. Powell connected for a two-run homer and scored three runs in the 8-5 Education Day victory over Delmarva. He followed it up on Thursday with a career night, blasting solo homers in the first and third inning off starting pitcher Jacob Cravey. The multi-homer game was the first in Powell’s professional career and 14th in Woodpeckers franchise history.

Powell homered again on Sunday for the fourth time in five games, blasting a two-run shot in the first inning to right-center field off Chase Allsup.

Following the week-long power surge, Powell is tied for the Carolina League lead in home runs with five and is tied for eighth in league-wide slugging percentage (.500).

The Houston Astros acquired the 21-year-old infielder in the 6th round of the 2024 MLB Draft out of Seminole State Junior College where he was named the 2024 NJCAA DI Baseball Player of the Year.

Powell and the Woodpeckers remain at home this week to host the Salem Red Sox on Tuesday, May 6th for a six-game series. Season tickets, group options, and single-game tickets are all on sale now at fayettevillewoodpeckers.com and by visiting the Truist Box Office next to the main entrance of the ballpark.
