Kinston, NC – The Fayetteville Woodpeckers (13-20) were unable to get going Tuesday night at Grainger Stadium as the Down East Wood Ducks (19-13) defeated the Woodpeckers, 10-0. Down East has now won six of seven against Fayetteville to begin the season series.

It was a five-run fourth inning against Woodpeckers starter Trey Dombroski (L, 1-3) that springboarded the Wood Ducks well out in front. Yeison Morrobel hit a two-run shot to center field to make it 2-0 before Gleider Figuereo brought in another with a double. Danyer Cueva capped off the big inning with another two-run homer.

Down East’s Cam Cauley then got in on the scoring with a two-run double in the fifth. In the seventh, Cauley launched yet another two-run blast to push the lead to nine. Abi Ortiz brought in the Wood Ducks’ final run in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI double.

Offensively, Fayetteville could not solve Down East’s pitching staff, including starter D.J. McCarty (W, 1-1). The righty went five scoreless innings and allowed just a pair of hits while striking out eight. Kai Wynyard, Damian Mendoza, and Adrian Rodriguez combined for the final four innings to complete the shutout for the home team.

The Woodpeckers will have a chance for redemption on Wednesday morning with an 11:00 AM first pitch. RHP Nolan DeVos gets the ball for Fayetteville while the Wood Ducks send RHP Luis Ramirez to the mound.
