Manchester, N.H. - Blue Jays No. 3 prospect Lourdes Gurriel Jr. recorded his first Double-A hit - a line drive double down the third base line - but the Fisher Cats took a 6-1 loss to the Portland Sea Dogs on Thursday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
Portland jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning on a homer by Eastern League All-Star Danny Mars.
The Sea Dogs scored the other four runs off Fisher Cats starter Jon Harris (L, 4-9) in the top of the sixth inning. Jeremy Barfield doubled and scored on a single by Mike Olt. Josh Tobias reached on a fielder's choice and Cole Sturgeon homered.
New Hampshire broke up Kevin McAvoy's (W, 4-6) shutout bid in the seventh inning. Gurriel doubled with one out, and scored after a Tim Lopes fly ball tipped off the glove of Barfield in right. The series with Portland continues on Friday at 7:05 p.m. at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
