KEYS FINAL SCORE MW 8-31

Frederick, MD – Dalton Ponce captures win in complete game and compiled 12 strikeouts. The Keys offense continued to roll in the 7-1 victory.

In what began as a pitcher’s duel, the Keys struck first with a four-run bottom of the fourth inning. Walker started off the offensive explosion when he walked and stole second base. Trenton Jamison followed when he drew a walk to put runners on first and second for Noah Martinez. A fielder’s choice on a sharply hit ball to Thunder second baseman, Justin Guerrera, allowed both runners to advance and a throwing error allowed Walker to score. Logan Thomason drew a walk to load the bases for Roberto Pena, who drove in Jamison and Martinez when he singled to right field. Johnny Kampes then singled to drive in Thomason to give the Keys a 4-0 lead.

The Keys added two insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Roberto Pena led off the inning with a solo homerun. With two outs, Kirkland Banks smashed a solo homerun which cleared all three levels of the outfield wall in left field to make it it 7-0 Keys.

The Thunder scored their lone run in the top of the eighth inning when Guerrera singled to left field and drove in Ramon Jimenez. Ponce would settle and struck out pinch hitter, Joe Impeduglia.

Ponce would return to the mound in the top of the ninth in search of the complete game win. After he struck out Max Giordano for the first out, he got Anthony Abbatine to pop-out. With two outs and the complete game in sight, Ponce recorded his twelfth strikeout to close out the game.
