Final Score Keys 13 and Black Bears 15

KEYS FINAL SCORE MW 9-2

Frederick, MD – Keys fans were treated to a thriller on Fan Appreciation Night, but the Keys ultimately fell in the season finale to West Virginia by a 15-13 score.

Hylan Hall opened the scoring with a two-run home run in the first, and Logan Thomason later homered in the third to put the Keys up 5-1.

The Black Bears loaded the bases with nobody out in the fifth, and scored a run on a double by Tyner Hughes. A great relay by the Keys cut down a second run at the plate on the double, and the Black Bears could only manage the one run in the frame, keeping the Keys lead at 5-3.

Hernan Yanez added two more for the Keys with a single in the fifth, before West Virginia responded with a four spot in the sixth inning. In the top of the seventh, they tied the game on a Frank Perez homer to lead off the inning.

A Roberto Pena double put the Keys back in the lead in the bottom half, scoring a pair as part of a three-run inning.

But the eighth is where the Black Bears took control, putting up six more. A two-run home run by Manny Vorhees put them back in the lead, before an Anthony Hansen double and Michael Cooper single capped off the rally.

Pena again came up big with a single for the Keys to bring them within a run in the eighth, but a Tyner Hughes single added a run right back for the Black Bears.

The Keys got the first two of the inning on base in the ninth, but came up empty, falling in the season’s final game by a 15-13 score.
