Trenton Jamison, Shaun Gamelin earn MLB Draft League Weekly honors

NEW YORK -- The MLB Draft League announced that Frederick’s Trenton Jamison and Williamsport’s Shaun Gamelin were named Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the period of Aug. 14 through Aug. 20.

Jamison, 24, garnered Hitter of the Week honors after batting .542 (13-for-24) with two doubles, one triple and six RBIs in six games for the Keys. The outfielder led all MLB Draft League hitters during the period in hits, runs scored (12) and OBP (.645), was second in average and total bases (17) and finished third in OPS (1.353).

Jamison hit safely in all six games for the Keys, recording four multi-hit performances including three three-hit games. He reached base five times against State College on Aug. 15, going 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs, two walks and a season-high five runs scored. Jamison scored three more runs the following day in a 2-for-5 performance and again at Trenton on Aug. 18, when he was 3-for-5 with an RBI. Jamison closed out his week by going 3-for-4 with a double, triple and two RBIs against the Thunder on Aug. 20.

The Atlanta, Ga., product improved his Draft League season batting average from .258 to .318 (42-for-132) during his award-winning week, while his OPS climbed from .646 to .805. Jamison has scored 27 runs In 33 games this season, recording eight doubles, two triples and 15 RBIs. He’s riding a nine-game hit streak dating back to Aug. 11, during which he’s batting .500 (18-for-36) with 12 runs scored, seven RBIs and more walks (7) than strikeouts (3). Jamison produced a .350/.412/.528 slash line with five home runs, 14 doubles and 38 RBIs this spring as an Alabama State senior. In four seasons with the Hornet, Jamison batted .315/.398/.475 with 183 hits, 18 home runs and 126 RBIs in 152 games.

Gamelin, 24, earned Pitcher of the Week honors for a second straight week after the Crosscutters starter struck out nine batters in 6.1 scoreless innings in a win at Frederick on Aug. 17. The right-hander allowed five hits and three walks in the outing, throwing 59 of 93 pitches for strikes, including 14 swinging strikes. Gamelin took home Pitcher of the Week honors last week after he struck out 14 batters while allowing two hits over eight scoreless innings against Mahoning Valley on Aug. 11.

Gamelin (6-0) currently leads the MLB Draft League in wins and innings pitched (50.1), having averaged more than six innings across his eight starts for Williamsport this season. He’s pitched to a 2.86 ERA, compiling 51 strikeouts against 15 walks while holding hitters to a .240 average. He has yet to allow a run in three August starts, going 3-0 with a 0.75 WHIP, .162 BAA and 30/4 K/BB in 21.1 innings.

A West Kingston, R.I., native, Gamelin was an American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings NCC Division III Third Team All-American selection this spring after he went 9-1 with a 2.93 ERA and 143 strikeouts in 89 innings (13 starts) as a Rhode Island College senior. He was also named ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. III First Team All-Region 2, Second Team All-Region 2 by D3baseball.com and First Team All-Little East.
