BOX SCORE

Three home runs in the middle innings prevented the Fresno Grizzlies (28-35) from winning the series as they dropped the finale 10-3 to the Modesto Nuts (37-26) Sunday afternoon Chukchansi Park in Downtown Fresno.

The Grizzlies scored early in the second inning as Robert Calaz doubled with one out in what would be a string of four consecutive hits for the Grizzlies but only came in to score on Felix Tena’s sacrifice fly that gave the Grizzlies a 1-0 lead.

Fisher Jameson delivered the longest outing of his pro career, going five innings, but surrendered a solo homer to Ricardo Cova in the fourth and a two-run homer to Carlos Jimenez in the fifth to give Modesto a lead it would not relinquish.

Dervy Ventura hit a three-run homer against the Grizzlies in the sixth to push Modesto’s lead to 6-1.

Fresno would cut the difference to three runs when Francisco Garcia crushed a two-run homer, his second homer of the season, underneath the scoreboard in left center and into the pool area, a whopping 414 feet.

But Modesto piled on four runs in the eighth capitalizing on a pair of a walks and a hit batter that forced in two runs after a single. Carter Dorighi added a two-run single in the inning to stretch the score to 10-3.

The Grizzlies received multi-hit games from Calaz, Jimmy Obertop, Yeiker Reyes and Francisco Garcia with Garcia and Felix Tena driving in all three runs.

Modesto’s win keeps them alive in the first half race for the California League’s North Division as they remain three games behind San Jose with three games left. Modesto hosts San Jose this week for those three games with a chance to win the division.

The Grizzlies still salvaged the split in the series after dropping the opener and taking the next two games by 5-3 scores. They grabbed their third win on Saturday thanks to a 7th inning homer by Andy Perez.

The Grizzlies hit the road for the final three games of the first half and the first three games of the second half down in Visalia at Valley Strong Ballpark. The series begins Tuesday night at 6:30pm.

All broadcasts will be available streamed through Bally Sports Live, the MiLB App, and the Grizzlies broadcast with Tim Slack can be accessed on fresnogrizzlies.com/watch.
