Loons Offense Erupts Again

Seven-run inning keys 10-5 win as Loons take 3 of 4 from TinCaps

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - For the second consecutive game, the Great Lakes Loons recorded a seven-run inning en route to another comfortable victory over the Fort Wayne TinCaps, winning Sunday afternoon, 10-5.

With the victory, the Loons secured a season-opening series win.

The game was scoreless entering the third inning when the Loons struck for the game's first three runs. Dillon Moyer drove in the first run with a triple to left field. Jacob Scavuzzo's RBI groundout made the score 2-0. Then Paul Hoenecke singled to right driving home Great Lakes' third run.

But the big inning for the Loons was the fourth, when the team exploded for seven scores sending 11 men to the plate. Moyer drove in the first run of the inning on a double. Malcolm Holland followed with an RBI single.

Later, after starter Jimmi Brasoban departed and Tonny Rizzoti inherited the bases loaded, Hoenecke drove in two with a single to left. Justin Chibogu notched two RBIs with a double. And Webster Rivas singled in one up the middle.

Rivas recorded three hits, including a double. Moyer finished with two extra-base hits, two runs and two RBIs. Hoenecke notched two hits and drove in three. Holland had two hits, two runs and two stolen bases.

Veteran righty Luis Chirinos (1-0) threw four scoreless frames before surrendering four runs in the fifth. He qualified for the win. James Baune allowed a run in three relief innings.

Jacob Rhame handled the ninth inning. He retired the first two batters. The next man Franmil Reyes singled but was thrown out by right fielder Joey Curletta trying to stretch his hit into a double.

Following an off day Monday, the Loons' play their first home game of 2014 Tuesday against the Cedar Rapids Kernels at 6:05 p.m. at Dow Diamond. A myriad of fun activities are planned for fans during the Loons' Opening Day Celebration, presented by Consumer's Energy, beginning at 4:30 p.m. with a parade through Downtown Midland on Main Street featuring Loons players and coaches and the hilarious antics of Amazing Christopher.

The first 5,000 fans will receive a magnet schedule, courtesy of Farm Bureau Insurance. Following the game, fans will be treated to a post-game Fireworks Loontacular, powered by Dow Corning.

Hard-throwing right hander Greg Harris is slated to start for the Loons making his 2014 debut. His mound opponent has climbed the Dow Diamond mound many times before, former Loons left-hander Miguel Sulbaran (0-0, 0.00)
